Dr. Maria Mantzourani graduated in Dental Surgery from the University of Manchester (UK) in 2004. After working in the Community Dental Services at the London Deanery, Maria joined The Royal London Hospital as a Senior House Officer, first in Restorative Dentistry and then in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Maria was awarded Membership of The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2006 and subsequently joined King’s College London as a Clinical Research Fellow in Restorative Dentistry. Maria was awarded her PhD in Dentistry (Oral Microbiome) in the summer of 2010.
In 2011, she joined Johnson & Johnson and was responsible for scientific engagement activities in Europe, Middle East and Africa. She then moved to New York as part of Johnson & Johnson’s Global Professional and Scientific Affairs group, where she led scientific activities in the US but also globally. In 2015, she returned to London with Unilever to take up the role of Global Clinical Leader where she was responsible for a global team of clinical scientists overseeing the clinical studies in Oral Care for a diverse range of products and preclinical science. In 2017, she joined the Global Medical Affairs group in GSK where she led various global scientific initiatives in Oral Care with a special focus on Public Health and also systemic health issues. In 2022, Maria joined Philip Morris as Head of Medical & Scientific Engagement in the UK in order to drive the advocacy around the concept of harm reduction. While still actively supporting the Consumer Healthcare industry with her knowledge and experience, she continues her clinical journey setting up Tooth and Art, focusing on oral disease prevention following the principles of functional medicine, personalised probiotic /prebiotic therapies and medical aesthetics.
Throughout her career she has published her research ranging from sedation for children, probiotics research, toothbrushing and prevention of several oral conditions and has been a Presenter in numerous Global Scientific events and Conferences. Maria is an experienced clinician, highly trained in Diagnosis, Treatment Planning and Prognosis in Restorative Dentistry and in the assessment of facial symmetry and evaluation of patients in relation to facial cosmetic procedures. She has always been passionate about Innovation and is constantly striving for scientific excellence and making a positive impact into her patients’ lives.
